Fido's Freebie Friday Unloads Silliness and Pet Giveaways

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 01:00 PM PDT

Twas the week before Blogpaws
when in every pet bloggers' abode,
writers prepared for the conference ahead.

Packing their laptops and business cards,
As they readied to hit the road,
Many already missed their very own bed.

Some pets are joining the conference for fun,
Others come along with a job to be done.

Oliver looks forward to getting to know you,
With the opportunity to meet pups and
Introduce himself to the whole slew.

Thanks for joining us for Fido's Freebie Friday, where you can see I'm getting in the spirit of the upcoming pet blogger's conference called Blogpaws. Okay, so I'm no poet, but I'm feeling a little silly and so you get some nonsense verses. Feel free to laugh, leave a comment poking fun, or simply giggle to yourself. Sometimes I'm just the queen of corny. Feel free to send me a rhyming dictionary if you happen to have a spare.

Doreen and I are hoping for a few good giveaways here this week, as many bloggers are busy preparing to travel and may be scaling back. Be sure to check in Friday when things should be more active, and see what's new here to look into.

For Visitors:
With listings open until Friday midnight, you'll continuously be finding new goodies on this list below. Last week was my first stab at using Rafflecopter, a cool new way to handle giveaways that keeps track of things for me much better. I appreciated one heads up from a reader who pointed out an easily-fixable issue. What about you? Did you like the new method for entry I used at the Petmate Curvations Pet Carrier giveaway last week?

I did learn a few things, and I'm sure I will continue to. Feel free to leave your feedback or drop me an email with any issues or suggestions: AllThingsDogBlog@gmail.com
Before you head off to shop, please let us know how you found us. We'd love to thank whomever referred you here. Hope you enjoy this collection of giveaways for your pet and the pet loving part of you.

For Bloggers:
For bloggers looking to link up to the hop, you'll find a Help Page with all sorts of resources and answers, from FTC guidelines to Facebook's new rules, to photo tips, and the how to assistance that first-timers may need to link up a blog post. If you have ideas for anything else that may be useful to add, we encourage you to leave a comment.

For bloggers stopping in to link up their giveaways, you need to know the 2 rules for participation:

  • The Fido's Freebie Friday Blog Hop is open to posts about giveaways, drawings, prizes, and freebies for pet products or services only, including pet-related items for owners. Feel free to link up multiple items if you have more than one giveaway going on.

"Chillin By My Pool on My P.L.A.Y. Bed"
We've all seen it. Nearly every issue of high fashion womens magazines feature poolside photo layouts. Now it's Tanner's turn! And he's in his element. Even when not in the water, Tanner enjoys lounging by the pool just like a beach property owner loves the view.

    Great Hip Support
Today Tanner is showing off his new bed from Eco-friendly dog bed maker Pet Lifestyle and You, or P.L.A.Y. It's oh so much better than the couch or his skimpy bed that appear in yesterday's post that begged the question, "Do Dogs Need Beds?" Their motivation was a pint-sized pug named Momo. Momo won their heart and inspired this sustainable line of beds that have some very unique features.

    Hot, But Comfy
Duvets allow us to change our quilt's look with a quick new cover. The folks at P.L.A.Y. believe that pet owners should be able to have that same perk. While they readily admit that most pups are just as happy to sack out on our dirty Tshirts that carry our scent, a comfortable, supportive, and fashionable bed is all the more pleasurable for both you and Fido. Duvets are available to purchase separately so that you can now change up your home's look, as well as Fido's, with a quick switch of the slipcover. What an inspired idea!

What do we like best about Tanner's new P.L.A.Y. bed? Besides the fact that it is made of denim--my fave decorating fabric--the filling is also an exciting element. Sounds geekie, I know, but I get excited about recycled products. The inside of this bed is made of recycled bottles, a whopping 92 of them to be exact. That's a lot of trash that did not end up in the landfill and I'm feeling pretty okay about that!

    Time for a Bedtime Snack
Needless to say, Tanner is greatly enjoying his new bed no matter where we place it. For now we'll call it a day and get ready for bedtime. It will be dark soon, so that means a bedtime snack, courtesy of Dog Skout Cookies. Am I crazy? Maybe, but then how many of us actually do poolside photo shoots with dog models? If the dog bed fits, sleep in it!

Want to see more? The designs are fun and fashionable, just like your home. You can also learn more about this cool company at their Facebook page and their blog. While you're at it, why not follow them at Twitter and be sure to get all their news.

Show-Me Animal Products Makes Active Dog First Aid Ready To Go

Belt Pack is Handy for Hiking
    or Activities 'On the Go'
Are you and your Fido on the go a great deal? The folks at Show-Me Animal products have a natural active dog first aid kit that's perfect for dog athletes, hiking, camping--any activities that you do on the go--where you may need quick first aid.

This kit is offered in two different containers, depending on your needs. When you're not sticking to one area (hiking for example), the belt pack is perfect. Slip your belt through the slot and carry the kit on your belt for quick first aid no matter where you are.

The canvas pouch has a nice flap inside to help keep contents clean, and each of the components are wrapped in plastic to keep them clean. The front flap secures with velcro.

    Hardshell Kit
    Also Includes First Aid Help
If your activities are more centrally located or you worry about moisture or heavy activity, you may prefer the hardshell plastic container for storing your kit. Each container holds the same list of useful items for first aid on-the-go.

What's particularly nice about this kit is the laminated instruction sheet that comes inside. Whether it's raining or muddy, this First Aid primer offers tips for urgent care in a number of different areas: cuts and wounds; rashes, itches and skin irritations; Emergency action list; CPR instructions, bee stings and bites; fractures or broken bones; toenail bleeding; puncture wounds and suspected poisoning. That's quite a list to squeeze onto this sheet, yet they've managed to do it without printing it microscopically. Very impressive!

There's Even a Small Pair of Scissors!

You can purchase either of these kits online at Show-Me Animal Products, where you'll also find a complete list of the contents. Show-Me Animal Products also has first aid kits for many other types of pets, including ferrets, birds, cats, hunting dogs, and even a barn kit. You'll find more about these here. If you are involved in a pet related sport, this product has your name all over it. You may want to stop by their Facebook page and "Like" them to keep up with their news.

    Handy Belt Pack
Lucky for us, I met the nice people who run this company at Global Pet Expo. They generously gave me a kit to test with my dogs, and 3 to give away to YOU! I keep my kit in the cubby hole of my car in the event of an accident, or for any injuries that may occur at the dog park, hiking, swimming, and camping. I've had to use it only once, but I sure was glad to have it. Tanner cut himself at the dog park and had a pretty good bleed going. It made me feel a lot better to clean the wound, remove debris, and apply a dressing to cover it until we got home and could do more extensive icing for swelling.

    It All Fits Inside
Some first aid kits include a simple muzzle, as a fearful or severely injured dog may lash out when touched, if he is frightened. Only you can judge whether your dog may react this way, but it certainly is a good idea for an item to add to your kit.

Each of the 3 times Tanner has been injured, his trust in me was evident. He allowed me to clean and probe, doing what was needed, carrying him to the car as well. While I was fortunate with Tanner, I've never had an injury with Oliver, so there's no telling what may happen with him, but then he's just a little whipper snapper, so I'm not terribly concerned about getting bitten by him. (Don't tell Oliver I said that!)

    I've Got the "Natural" Version
Hopefully I have you thinking about being prepared, whether it be in an accident or a natural disaster, first aid supplies are imperative to assuring you get your pup to the vet without further detriment to his health.

Let's give 3 kits away to get you guys in the mood for thinking about first aid in an emergency. If you don't win, I encourage you to check out your options and purchase supplies for taking care of your dog in an emergency. Click the title if the Rafflecopter entry form does not appear here. It will refresh and appear here:

Full disclosure: Show-Me Animal Products provided me with an Active Dog First Aid Kit to test out with my dogs. I have not been paid to provide a review and the thoughts shared here are my own.
