Dog Travel with Ease: The Snoozer Takes Over!

    Football Anyone?

We'll be bringing footballs to Blogpaws for next year's Super Dog Sunday event. Last year when some would-be participants were not able to pull off a photo, we learned that they just couldn't come up with a football-themed item to include in their pic. We plan to fix that problem this year by handing out footballs to as many bloggers as we can meet.

Missy from Dogs for the PAWS helped us out with the footballs. Oliver packed his Snoozer rolling pet carrier (like a carrier on wheels) up with as many as possible and we're looking forward to meeting everyone at Blogpaws. It's a bit crowded in there, but he seems happy, right?

Somehow, though, I'm thinking we'll have to coerce him into shipping the footballs separately. After all, where's he going to snooze in this Snoozer when it gets to be naptime? I don't really think he thought this through, so we'll work on it.

We did look at other options when we visited Global Pet Expo. We already knew we were headed for D.C. for Blogpaws, so a carrier on wheels was definitely a must. After all, a chunky 10 lb. dog is a handful in a carrier (written with tongue in cheek), so I decided I liked the option of rolling or backpacking Oliver in a small carrier.

No Entry! Guard Dog at Work

We shopped and shopped the booths, knowing we had to find just the right one. The Snoozer won this contest! This super cool rolling pet carrier, converts to a backpack as well, so I can change my mind and switch it up a bit when needed. Pretty cool, huh?

Hey! This is Just My Size
When We got the Snoozer home, Oliver decided he needed to guard it the first day. Then, after a bit of getting acquainted, he ventured inside. His own bed was right next to the Snoozer, but he seemed to think it was time to test out this new gadget that must be for him. Success!

    Comfy Cozy
Naptime eventually did happen. It looks like he'll be comfortable there.

Now let me tell you about some of the other features of this nifty traveler for pups. The top, front and one side are all made of durable mesh, allowing for plentiful visibility. I know Oliver will enjoy being able to see where we're headed as we roll around from place to place.

Almost as important as visibility are the pockets on each side. There's room for his leash, some treats and a package of doodie bags--all the really important stuff. We'll be traveling with a small bag of Organix treats and some Flush Puppies to be sure we can take care of all of Oliver's major needs. I have a collapsible water bowl that will also fit into one pocket, so I can share my water with him no matter where we are.

    Off We Go
Shall we try out the backpack version of the Snoozer? All we have to do is retract the handle. The straps for the backpack are tucked out of the way inside pockets at the back of the Snoozer, easily accessible.  So, off we go on our test walk.

I'm sure you're all just drooling over this great carrier. I love that I have the option of rolling or backpacking him. It fits my travel style well. And Oliver seems to think the top opening is pretty handy for seeing the view, no matter where we are. The design was clever, making the top and front each open separately. And there's no worries about losing your little furry friend. Each Snoozer comes with a short attachment leash and hook on the inside, so you can secure him while you roll or backpack your buddy through airports, hotels and shopping expeditions. What a great way to travel!

I Can Even Share a Treat

Dog Travels: Packing for Oliver's Trip to Blogpaws

    Did We Forget Anything?

Oliver must know there's something exciting coming up. He's been spending a lot of time practicing and posing for travel photos. And the decisions--oh my!  Today we had to go through his wardrobe and pick three Tshirts for Blogpaws to pack in his new Solvit HomeAway Travel Organizer. We decided on his All Things Dog Blog logo shirt, a Dogs for the PAWS Tshirt, and another that we'll keep secret for a fun surprise.

His travel bag is much cooler than mine. It carries his food (Organix travels with us everywhere we go!), his water, two bowls, his poop bags (we like Flush Puppies because they're so eco-friendly), and even bandanas, Tshirts, and important "don't-leave-home-without-its" like dental bones and a ball. More below....

    Thanks Sugar!
We recently got a nametag that is perfect for travel bag identification. It came from our friend Rosalyn at Sugar the Golden Retriever. I couldn't wait to put that on his bag since it has my name on it. I attached it to one of the zippers on Oliver's travel bag. This should defintely make sure no one mistakes it for their own, don't you think?!! Thanks to Rosalyn and Sugar for this nice gift.

    Looks Good, Huh?!

You would think that Oliver is just about ready to go, with all the loot in the photo up there, but there is still more to consider. Be sure to check back for more on Oliver's travel preparations.

Did you notice the cool collapsible bowls with Oliver's travel kit? And the food bag that that holds 10 cups of food seals up really tight to make sure his chow stays fresh. We'll be able to travel with a  one-liter BPA-free, polycarbonate water bottle to make sure there's always some wet stuff for Oliver on the trip. There's even room inside the bag to take along our new microfiber towel in case Oliver needs a touch up in the tub or gets rained on. He vetoed the idea of an umbrella. No girly stuff for Oliver!

It's a very nice kit with all sorts of cool pockets for all those little things that every puppy needs; don't forget the leash, collar, tags and harness. There's plenty of room for it all in this great bag. If you would like more detail, check here.

Are you thinking about taking a trip with your fido? The nice folks at Solvit Products would like to help make your preparations easier. You can visit their site's retail locator for assistance in finding a store near you that carries their travel, mobility and access products. You can also order your own organizer online through Amazon

Another option is to take your chances at winning one. In conjunction with Solvit Products, All Things Dog Blog is giving away two kits of everything you see in the picture just above this sentence. (Sorry, Oliver and his clothes don't go; we're sort of attached!) This kit is incredibly spacious with 6 pockets, in addition to the interior compartments, made specially so the water and food containers remain standing up. It's a terrific design, clearly created with much forethought. They even placed a dispensing hole in one of the front pockets for your doodie bags! Are you ready to enter?

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment about your pup's travel plans. If you'd like to get extra entries to improve your chances, here's more possibilities:

      • COMMENTS! We'd love to hear about your pup and his travel or mobility issues.
      • Any comments or uploads to Facebook, per Facebook rules, are not allowed to constitute an entry. To register an entry, you must tell me with a comment that you've left a photo on FB. Thanks for your understanding; I'm just trying to follow FB's rules.

Full disclosure: Solvit Products sent me a HomeAway Travel organizer to review. We have packed it to take to Washington, D.C. for Blogpaws, and have determined it completely meets Oliver's needs for the 1-week trip during which we will be away. Solvit Products did not pay us to offer this opinion and these thoughts are our own.

    Tanner Shows Off
     Some of Our Collection
Truth be told, I'm part of a book-loving family. Even the dogs enjoy being read to. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. They love the audio books I play when we take a trip! It's almost as soothing to them as Lisa Spector's Through a Dog's Ear CD's for the canine household.

Today's giveaway announcement is for families with early readers. The 4 books I will give to one winner are beginner reading, so they are appropriate for many children from Kindergarten through first or second grade.

One winner will be chosen by Random.org. To be eligible, you must have a North American address (with the exception of Quebec--their laws are tough for small giveaways like this) and be 18 or older. This offer is void where prohibited.

Subscriptions to All Things Dog Blog are a great way to follow our continuing book and dog product giveaways. You can select email (our most popular option), RSS, Google Friend Connect, or Networked Blogs. If you subscribe in any of these ways you may count this as an entry to win by following up with a comment telling me you have subscribed. Thanks!

If you have a family member or child that would enjoy these books, I'd love to hear from you. Enter daily by comment here (Tweets are appreciated, but must be followed up by a comment to count in the drawing) and tell us about your dogs, your kids and how they enjoy one another. I look forward to your comments. If you want extra credit comments, here's a few ideas:

    • Retweet
    • Hit the Google+ button (top of the post)
    • Subscribe to our blog
    • Send me a picture of your dog reading or being read to: AllThingsDogBlog@gmail.com.
    • Be sure to register each of these entries with an "I did this" entry in our comments section.
Entries close Thursday, August 11 at 5 PM sharp. I'll announce the winner of the books on late Friday afternoon. See you then!

    Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

The emails keep rolling in about the grab bags. Everyone seems to think this is such a fun idea. I guess we all like surprises now and then.  If you're not familiar with the concept of this weekly event, you can read up at our announcement post, which explains how it got started.

There is no entry required. This week's winner is Debbie Redondo. It's been a while since I've seen Debbie on the site, but if I can find her, she'll get a nice treat and toy prizepack for her fido. Debbie will have until 5 PM next Thursday, August 11 to get in touch with her address at AllThingsDogBlog@gmail.com. Congratulations to Debbie and her dog.
