September 17-25, 2011 is a very special week to pet adoption. This week many of us in the pet blogging world offer our venues to adoptable pets that have special needs, are seniors, have less adoptable appearances, undesirable colors and so on.

Our goal is to get you to focus on giving these lovable pets the same chance you would a Westminster winner. After all, you're looking for a companion, not a trophy dog. Right? Give these pets a look, and feel free to tour Petfinder on your own to search areas and pet types that appeal more to your needs. It feels good to help an unwanted pet find a loving owner. Won't you give them a second look?

Francis
Meet Francis, a 7 to 9 year old Dachshund who was placed in the rescue when her owner died. Francis had to have some teeth removed when it was discovered he had absesses, but unfortunately the infections started some seizures. The vets also discovered she has an enlarged heart but she is on meds for this to diminish the chances of her life being shortened.

Francis does not do well with cats, and the rescue has requested she be adopted to a family who has no cats. Francis is available for adoption in Aurora, Nebraska.

Kia
Kia is a beautiful Alaskan Malamute who has proven to need a home where she can be the only pet. She has not done well with cats, dogs or children. Kia is young and will offer an owner a long life of devotion if given the right environment. She will need a best friend who can focus on her as the the only furry household member. You can see Kia in Hastings, Nebraska.

Mary Margaret
Mary Margaret really stole my heart. She was found on a city street, blind and homeless. When brought to the rescue the workers discovered that you can't find a sweeter kitty. Mary Margaret deserves a warm and loving home to match her demeanor. As with all pets on Petfinder, she is spayed/neutered and is up to date on shots. Mary Margaret is also house trained. She is available in York, Nebraska.

Karena
Today was a first--no rabbits in Nebraska. Where do you suppose they all went? Interesting, but I'll offer this space to another pooch seeking a forever home. This is Karena, a senior female available in Kearney, Nebraska. She is a Pomeranian mix, a small dog that is about 8 years old. Kearney has a nice disposition and will make someone a great lap dog.
