Dunbar Unleashes A New Era In Dog TV

Many years ago our very own Dr. Ian Dunbar hosted a television show in England called Dogs with Dunbar, which popularized off-leash puppy socialization and training classes. Puppy classes capitalized on the malleability of young pups by focusing on temperament training, the prevention of behavior problems, and teaching pups the necessary skills to survive happily in an average home environment, rather than dealing with formal obedience exercise tailored for the competition ring. The program changed dog training in England overnight.
Now history is about to repeat itself with another innovative dog training show conceived by Dr. Dunbar. Dog Star Daily is proud to present America's Dog Trainer - a Web-based companion dog training program.
America's Dog Trainer or (ADT) is innovative because it features a different trainer each week and because today's technology makes the program available worldwide 24 hours a day. So you can find the dog trainer (or trainers) that best suit your personality and goals and watch wherever and whenever you have the time or need. Solutions and educational entertainment are always just a click away.
Dog Star Daily interviewed Dr. Dunbar to learn more about how America's Dog Trainer was born and why it's so special.
Dog Star Daily: How did you first come up with the concept of America's Dog Trainer?
Dr. Ian Dunbar: I'd been filming my show for years and when we got to the 5th season, I thought, "Now what?" I felt as if I'd accomplished what I set out to do with the show and there is only so much any one person has to offer.
I travel all over the world, giving seminars and workshops to dog trainers and over the years, I've met so many lovely, talented people. I felt that dogs and their owners deserved to see the people I've met. Some trainers literally exude empathy and charm and I found myself thinking, "These people need to be on TV". I've always been so impressed by the sheer wealth of creativity that I see in many trainers. Dog training is not a one-size-fits-all process. Finding the right trainer to come into your home, your life, and guide you in your relationship with your best friend, your dog, is a very intimate choice. Dog training is a unique profession; there are as many approaches to training as there are dog trainers.
DSD: Why did you decide to debut America's Dog Trainer on the Internet? Why not go the traditional route, television?
DID: Been there done that! But seriously, I love new technology; the possibilities are endless! Producing traditional cable shows is too pricey, we're talking millions of dollars to secure a timeslot and produce a show. Today, it doesn't have to be that way. New technology gives us the opportunity to bring some of the best, most vibrant trainers we know to the public right now, and, on an affordable budget. By hosting the show on our very own website, Dog Star Daily, we're not beholden to the rules and constrictions of traditional television producers, directors and program planners. Each trainer may present their episode exactly as they want it to be. And of course, there's a huge advantage to web-TV. Whereas cable and network shows have a restricted local or national audience, the web-TV audience is worldwide and all the shows are archived and available to watch forever - anytime and anywhere. This makes education and entertainment so accessible. It allows us to bring the best and the brightest of dog trainers to dog lovers, no holds barred. This is the future of dog training - the new generation. It's happening right before our eyes and I'm just so thrilled!
