ASK THE VET: Tuberculosis and Dogs Posted: 02 Apr 2010 01:00 PM PDT Find me on Facebook Follow me on Twitter Write to Dr. Jacki, ASK THE VET (c) photo copyright Carrie Boyko All Healthy Here! Can humans get tuberculosis from their pets (like dogs)? Can dogs get tuberculosis from humans? Thanks! Yadira _____________________________________ Hello Yadira: This is a tough one. There are no known cases of TB being transmitted from dog to human or vice versa but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Dogs do not get infected with TB all that often. Primates are more of a zoonotic concern than dogs. TB is actually called Mycobacterium and it is everywhere in the environment, so that is a more likely source of infection. When in doubt, ask your doctor and talk to your vet. Good luck, Dr. Jacki Dr. Jacki, D.V.M.
