Jacque Models his Red Sweater

Dear Dr. Jacki:

Are there any fabrics I should avoid when I buy my little dog a sweater or jacket?

We have had a lot of cold and I would like to get him something to wear when he goes outside in the early morning. He shivers and sometimes doesn't want to do his duty in the grass. He just wants to come inside. Then we have an oopsie!

*******************************
Dear Reader:

There are no particular fabrics to avoid when buying a sweater or jacket for your pet.  I would be sure that it fits correctly and that it is not too tight or loose.  Typically dogs do not like the feel of cold or wet ground on their feet so this may be part of the issue as well.  If you could clear a space for him to go potty outside then this may make him more comfortable.  Good luck!!

In Loving Memory for Peanut from Darmark 05/04-2001 – 26/02-2010

Posted: 28 Feb 2010 04:55 AM PST

In Loving Memory for Peanut 05/04-2001 – 26/02-2010, Peanut from Darmark Family, Her owner is Julie Sander Lindgren, she is my friend from Facebook. Peanut was sick due to illness, It was hard the decision to euthanize dog is one of the hardest you'll have to make, but it's the most humane way to say goodbye to old friend who's in pain.
Take your friend yourself, wrapped in her favorite blanket with a favorite toy or treat. Remember, the last sensations your dog will experience are the sound of your voice and your reassuring smell, the things she loved during her life. Rest in peace.

By Clement

Last words from your Mom :
- my dear , my love, my companion through life.
Our life together has been with love from the first sight. When I got sick with bad kidneys and nearly died , not once but two times, the thought of you and Mingo , brought me back from the dark tunnels of my life.
With you eyes of understanding my hurt, and licking the tears from my eyes, you have been my true companion all the way through. You made me smile on a rainy day , and I use to sing : " You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when sky's are grey.
You never notice how much I love you -
please don't take my sunshine away."
The 26 of feb. 2010 , my sunshine was taken away , it's cold and Im freezing. But Im still breathing, Im still breathing , Im still breathing,- even though my heart stopped beating when you died. My heart is ripped to thousand pieces, and Im so afraid I can't heal. The aching in my body , my mind and my broken heart, is not going away, even though I try to go one with my life.
I have to be there for the others , for Mingo , she misses you like crazy , and I don´t know if she knows.
The empty pillows and blankets were you alway lay on , is empty and the screaming silence , seems so loud in my ears, only my aching heart is to be heart. I love you more than any word can say or any poem or song can express, I hope you know that.

You where the little one, "lille", "Pretty" , " Mohi" and "Prettypooh", sweet child have manny names, and you were our "kind" of child, because I couldn't get any children of my own. Maybe that is why letting you go is hurting so much more.
Now you rest beside Isabel in the garden you love so much. Risby is where you have to take your last journey across the Rainbow Bridge in to the gates of heaven.

Please wait for us till we see you again , and forgive me the choice I made to let you go. Even though people say , that was for your best , and it was !!, I never will come to term with playing God. Who am I , to decide who should live or die. I feel so guilty ! Guilty that I did not discover your illness before to late. That I didn't tell the vet about the lump I have found. That I didn't think enough of it. I hate myself everyday not have done you right , and been a so selfish. I should have known, I should have seen , that you had a bad day. I did not !
PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
My love for you will never die, and you will be forever in my heart, I'll never forget you. I beg you to watch over our Twins and be their guardian angle. I have learn my lesson, and I promised you I will never make the same mistake again.

This is goodbye – I have to let you go, even though my heart is aching, my tears is running down my cheeks. We will see each other again – I Promise – I Promise you, and then I will never leave you again – I promised.
My sweet little Peanut, my eternal love will be with you and guide you through the tunnels of darkness till you reach the shining light that you deserve . Be in peace my love – I will hold you in my arms in my dreams, kiss you like I use to – till we meet again…… I love you…. see you soon…. my love…. my Peanut

DogQuality: Dog Steps Review - Making Life Easier for your Older Dog

DogQuality: Dog Steps Review - Making Life Easier for your Older Dog

Dog Steps Review - Making Life Easier for your Older Dog

Posted: 26 Feb 2010 06:11 PM PST

As dogs get older and face issues such as arthritis and joint weakness, owners need to be aware that their dog is at risk of injury when they are jumping down from furniture such as couches or beds. In addition, it is important to understand that climbing onto these same areas will become more difficult for dogs as they get into their later years. Dog steps can be just the answer as they allow older dogs to climb without straining their joints and descend without the need to jump.

We had the opportunity to do a side-by-side review of two popular dog steps currently on the market. Doggy Steps from the As Seen on TV brand and Pet Gear’s Soft Steps.

There are noticeable differences between the two products starting with price. The As Seen on TV Doggy Steps are approximately $35 CDN compared to Pet Gear’s which run around $75 CDN. The expression ‘you get what you pay for’ was running through my head as I could not help but notice how flimsy the Doggy Steps were next to the sturdy Pet Gear dog stairs.

The Doggy Steps can handle dogs up to 70 lbs, but I would feel a bit safer if only small lightweight dogs used these stairs as the lack of stability was worrisome. The Pet Gear product with its wider steps has a maximum weight capacity of 150 lbs, something I personally put to the test :)

The size of the steps was also very different between the two products. The Doggy Steps measure 18″Lx14″Wx12″H while the Pet Gear dog steps come in much taller and wider at 22.5″L x 16″W x 16″H.

Both products have an underneath rubber that allows the dog steps to grip even the most slippery floors such as hardwood or tile. In terms of colour selection, the Doggy Steps only come in the creme colour while the Pet Gear dog steps come in Blue, Burgundy, Coffee and Leopard.

Overall, there is a dog and a situation to suit both products so each owner needs to make the decision according to their dog’s needs and the physical surroundings. Small dogs can certainly benefit from the Doggy Steps which are especially useful when budget and room size are an issue. The Pet Gear steps are definitely of a higher quality and therefore the better choice for heavier, bigger dogs or small dogs that like to fit their whole body on each step as they climb.

The most important thing to decide is whether it is time to give your dog an easier way to climb onto and down from couches and beds to help keep them safe from injury, while continuing to give them access to some of their favourite places around the house. For more info on dog steps please visit: DogQuality.com

Have you used dog steps for your senior dog? If so we’d love to hear about your experience.

Max Can't Wait
to Meet our New Trainer!
(c) photo copyright on file, all rights reserved

This place is certainly a whirlwind of activity right now. I'm getting offers to place ads, litters of puppies that need homes, guest post offers and lots of folks looking for promo on my dog-friendly site. My loyalty, however, is to you guys--my readers. I have not forgotten that you asked, in my poll last summer, for an ASK THE TRAINER column.

Pardon my delay, but please understand that Oliver and I have been busy sniffing out the right trainer to suit our family-friendly focus.

I'll have more to say in an upcoming post, but for now, I just want you to know that this plan is in the 'hopper'. Robby, our family's rabbit, helped just a little with that last comment. He's such a ham!

What will you love about our new trainer? She has a delightful approach. No stiff rules about what a dog can or cannot do at your home. Her philosophy is that YOU, and only you, should make the decision whether Rover sleeps on the couch, the floor, your bed, his own bed, or in a crate--at least once he is fully house trained and well-behaved.

Keep an eye out for your new trainer's introduction. I'll be publishing it very soon. Meanwhile, start jotting down your trainer questions. I know you will have a few, as I have received emails from a good many of you with questions about training. It is a great feeling to know that now your answers will come from someone with proper credentials. Happy tails!
