Service Dog Tags - testers needed...

...hi, I need your help.

Over the last year our small family owned business has grown tremendously. This is due in fact that most of our new business has come from people like you spreading the word to people they know and meet. All we can say is a BIG THANK YOU.

Well as you know with any growth come new challenges. One of the things we had simply outgrown was our purchase and checkout process, or cart system. In the early days it did the job but honestly it was missing things that you and I both needed.

When you purchased a tag it was streamlined to let you do that one task and check out. But as we added more items that you could purchase (like owner tags, leashes, etc.) it wasn't very intuitive on how to add these additional items.

Another huge hole was how to send us your animal's photos. The default was emailing it to us but it was an extra step for you and made it hard on us to match the photos to your order.

Then there was, what should have been an automated task, of letting you know when your package shipped. Well we used PayPal's shipping system to create postage labels and although it is supposed to send you an email saying your order has shipped, unless you used a PayPal account to pay for the tags (most people just use their credit card) you never got this email. We filed all kinds of tickets with PayPal and they finally said "it's not a big enough problem for us to deal with" >:-(

Well we have literally spent more than 6 months and thousands of dollars to build a new store.

Here's where you come in -we just launched it and it's now live. We would love your feedback on the new store. It's still a work in progress and still has some polishing to do but we would love to get your feedback. Are there typos, items that need more pictures etc? Let us know!

So now when you add a tag to your cart you have the option to upload a photo right off your computer that is linked to your order when you checkout.

Has it shipped? You'll never have to ask us again because the new store let's you know when it's shipped..

You can now create an account that you can log into with a private password and check the status of your order any time.

If you go to http://www.servicedogtags.com it won't look any different - the reason we didn't change the front of our site was we have always believed that it's important to educate and qualify our customers.  Obviously not all people meet the criteria for our products like you do.

But because you're a previous customer you get to sneak in the backdoor. Your VIP link is http://www.servicedogtag.com

Thanks again for your feedback

Pup Safety First on Valentine's Day

Buddy, Ready for Valentine's Day
It's that time of year again. Time for boxes of chocolates and adorable heart necklaces. I just want to remind you to be safe. Chocolate is extremely toxic to dogs' systems, so be safe. While your little Yorkie, like Buddy here, may not be able to get the box off your kitchen counter, your Lab or even a Border Collie may surprise you at their wiley ability to nuzzle a box to the edge.

Another word of caution, even through thoroughly wrapped in plastic, those chocolates can still be readily detected by your dog. And he doesn't have to be a hound to find them. Place the candy well out of reach of your largest dog, and hide the jewelry right along with it. Hopscotching around your yard to locate a charm or necklace that has been eaten will not be fun!

FYI, if you do have an incident with the chocolate, be sure to contact your vet or poison control immediately. This link takes you to a sub-page on my site that has loads of emergency resources for situations like this. It couldn't hurt to print it and keep it somewhere accessible. You'll also find it located on my site under Emergency resources in the lower part of my sidebar. Tuck that in your memory bank for future reference.

On a lighter note, hows about we give away a couple of adorable bracelets for some of you Valentine fans? My friends over at Freaky Dog People sent me these precious bracelets, and I just have to share! Comments here and on my Facebook page will get you an entry. I'll award both bracelets to two lucky winners on Friday, January 29. That will give me time to get them to the winners before Valentines Day. A bracelet will make a nice addition to that box of candy!

Just a little reminder...Our drawing entries each week are rolling. That means that once you're entered, your name remains in the pot until it is drawn. It also means that someone who doesn't enter this week may be this week's winner. I just wanted to reiterate my weekly drawing methodology. You may enter as often as you wish. Good luck!

Speaking of drawings, it's time to announce the winner of this week's prize, a CD from Through a Dog's Ear: Music to Calm Your Canine Companion. Mary Lou Rousseau, come on down! You're today's winner from our pot of rolling entries. Thanks to everyone who entered, and remember--your name is still in the pot for our weekly giveaways. Keep entering to raise your potential for winning.

Oliver seems to have taken a fancy to the pawprint bracelet. I suppose it would fit him like a necklace, but I doubt if it was intended for a dog. It's more of a dog lover gift. He's moping over at 5 Minutes for Fido. Poor fella!

It's Show Dog Time Again!

Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:51 PM PST

by Carrie Boyko, CEB

This past weekend I watched the Eukanuba/AKC National Dog Show. No matter what my feelings about show dogs or what their lifestyle may be like, I sure do enjoy the parade of breeds. While watching, I popped around the Internet and Youtube, where this video caught my eye. Seems like it falls into the same category, and it clearly was made at a competition of sorts. Clever, to be sure. Entertaining, most definitely.

But would I want to be one of these poodles? Not on your life. I had to distance my feelings as I watched, my ambiguous emotions bouncing back and forth between enjoyment of the creativity and concern for what the dogs may have had to endure. It would be much easier to watch it if I were not a dog lover, but all the same, it is certainly magnificent artistry. I hope you're able to enjoy the designs and the music of this video. Comments?

How To Teach Your Dog To Fetch
Fetch is a fun game for you and your dog to play. It promotes bonding and provides a great way for you to exercise your dog. Remember – a good dog is a tired dog! Teaching your dog to fetch promotes bonding and is a great way to exercise your dog. Many dogs like Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Spaniels, and other sporting breeds have a strong desire to retrieve. Others dogs like to chase toys and play keep away. That’s why it is a good idea to start teaching the rules of fetch when your dog is a puppy. But, don’t let that discourage you – adult dogs can learn to play fetch, too!

Ready, Set, Fetch
A good way to introduce fetch to your dog is through the two-toy fetch method. For this you will need two identical Plush Dog Toys, bouncy Ball Dog Toys, or other toys your pup is crazy about.

1) With one toy in your hand, playfully tempt your dog and then throw the toy.
2) When your dog chases it, use happy talk to praise her. When she picks up the toy, call her to you and show her you have another toy. Most likely she will want the dog toy you have and she’ll race back to you to get it.
3) Throw the second toy and as pup is chasing it go and pick up the first toy and start the process over again.
Because this is a very physical game, start slowly and build up endurance. At first you may only want to work two or three repetitions twice a day. Make sure you end each game with your dog wanting more!
